Declaration of The Union Of Latin American Parties UPLA on the consolidation of the Venezuelan dictatorship

January 15, 2019

The Board of the Union of Latin American Parties UPLA, seen what happened in Venezuela with the consolidation of the dictatorial regime of Nicolás Maduro, who took possession of the government for the period 2019 -2025 covered in a totally illegitimate electoral process and lacking the minimal requirements for democracy.

WE DECLARE:
1.- To express our deepest rejection of the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela and his usurpation of the government, ignoring from now on any action or decision that it may take other than calling immediately to new elections in the framework of a free, democratic and transparent process.

2.- Support the recent resolution of illegitimacy of the Venezuelan regime issued by the Council Standing Committee of the Organization of American States (OAS), together with calling on all democratic governments of the world to strongly reject what is happening in Venezuela and to take the measures that they consider appropriate.

3.- Express our solidarity with the Venezuelan people, who are resisting the oppression of a regime illegitimate, corrupt and negligent, which has the country submerged in the biggest humanitarian, social, political and economic crisis in its history.
