The IDU Welcomes New Members From Italy

On September 23rd, 2024, the Executive Committee of the International Democracy Union met and voted to approve the membership applications from two Italian parties, Fratelli d’Italia and Forza Italia.

Governing together since 2022 under the leadership of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani, the two parties are strongly committed to our IDU values as inscribed in the London Declaration.  They firmly support the rule of law and the free market at home, while standing together with the democratic world in opposition to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and in support of Israel.  Fratelli d’Italia and Forza Italia will greatly contribute to our mission of defending and promoting freedom and democracy globally.

Having the largest number of MEPs in the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) Group and the biggest representation in the Italian Parliament, Fratelli d’Italia is one of Europe’s leading conservative forces.  Forza Italia possesses extensive governing experience and serves a vital role in promoting the Christian Democratic political tradition within the European People’s Party (EPP).

The IDU thanks Antonio Giordano MP and Deborah Bergamini MP for representing their respective parties during the membership application process. We are very much looking forward to working together closely in the months and years to come.
